Wind energy – the fastest growing renewable energy source in the world

The Ontario Wind Resource Atlas lets you view colour-coded maps of many wind statistics for any one-square-kilometre area in the province. This mapping tool shows Ontario's wind energy potential and identifies promising sites for future wind energy development.

Wind Energy contributes to Ontario’s

• clean and healthy communities
• new and varied electricity supply
• sustainable economy

The wind industry uses these maps to locate areas for more thorough local investigation. Generally, wind statistics provided in the resource maps need to be verified by a wind resource assessment program which involves the use of wind monitoring towers at the site of interest.
